Il n'existe pas strictement parlant une doctrine sociale que l'on puisse séparer du reste de la foi chrétienne, mais dans un sens plus étroit l'on entend par " la doctrine sociale " les définitions papales qui ont été publiées dans les encycliques depuis 1891. Voici donc une sélection de ces documents:

Strictly speaking there is no such thing as a social doctrine that could be distinguished from the rest of the Christian Faith, but in a narrower sense the expression "Catholic social doctrine" refers to the papal definitions that have been published in encyclicals since 1891.
